Hedge Talk
"The Secret Life of Hedges"
Hedges may stand still and quietly, but oh, the stories they have to tell! If they could whisper their secrets, they’d share tales of the people living behind them and maybe even teach us a little about ourselves.
See that tall, towering hedge over there? The one reaching for the sky? It’s like a big green wall, isn’t it? Some people think tall hedges are a way to say, "Stay out! This is my space." But sometimes, these hedges block beautiful views and feel a little unfriendly, like someone who never wants to share their toys.
Now, look at the tiny hedge nearby, the one that's short and low. It doesn’t want to hide anything at all! It seems to say, "Come on over! Let’s chat!" But to others, it might feel like it’s peeking in, like a neighbor who never knocks before coming inside.
But it’s not just the size of the hedge that has something to say. The style of a hedge can speak, too!
A hedge that’s trimmed just right, neat and tidy, is like someone who likes things to be perfect and in order. Everything has its place, and everything is just so. But a wild, fluffy hedge that grows whichever way it pleases? That one seems to say, "Let things be! No need for fuss!"
Hedges are smart, too. They can bend and grow around obstacles like fire hydrants and big old tree roots. They’re like the best kind of friend—one that changes and adapts, no matter what gets in their way.
And here’s the magical part: if a hedge gets hurt or sick, it has a special way of growing back, strong and healthy, no matter the weather or the trouble that comes its way.
So, the next time you pass by a hedge, take a moment to look at it. Thank it for standing tall (or small), for guarding homes, for growing and changing, and most of all, for listening to all the stories around it—without saying a word.
